Focus on Britain 2015

 

Always Look on the Bright Side of Britain…

 

We are proud to announce and invite you and your school to participate in the 12th “Focus on Britain” contest at Egry KSZK in Zánka.  This year the competition puts the British sense of humour under the microscope. The main topics will be the history, the most important genres and prominent characters of British humour. 

 

The contest will consist of two major parts; a written and an oral section. Contestants are required to use their imagination and improvising skills to compose and perform a short comedy, which should contain the core elements of the British sense of humour. The length of skits or sketches cannot exceed 5 minutes.  Basic equipment, such as microphones, laptops or projectors will be available on the spot.

 

The written part will include the following types of tasks: gap fill, reading comprehension, matching and writing.

 

Participants will be judged on the following:

-       Knowledge of the typical genres of British humour and the biography / filmography of well-known comedians from the British Islands.

-       Improvisation and presentation skills: confidence, creativity and stage presence.

-       Use of English: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and language use.

 

Total scores are calculated by weighing the written part (60%) and the oral section (40%).
